Texas Legislation of Interest

There are many bills being introduced into the Texas Legislation during each session. More often than not it is difficult to understand the bills purpose. This page lists a few of the major bills that we are following through the legislation, a summary of each, and the bill in it's original wording in a downloadable format .

  • SB 8 - Sen. Florence Shapiro (R, Plano): Allows school districts more flexibility over personnel decisions.
  • HB 19 - Rep. Jimmie Don Aycock (R, Kileen): Creating more flexibility on the timing of hearings on teacher contracts.

  • HB 20 - Rep. Dan Huberty (R, Kingville): Allows school districts greater flexibility over timing of notifying a teacher that their contract is not being renewed.
  • HB 21 - Rep. Mark Shelton (R, Fort Worth): Allows school districts to terminate employment of teachers currently under contract due to a necessary reduction in personnel.
  • SB 1 - Sen. Robert Duncan (R, Lubbock): Enables the Comptroller to certify the budget and gives direction on how to spend the allocated funds.
